Photos to Life
I usually get the idea of a watercolor painting while at other peoples homes where ideas of a subject matter comes up and ideas are further expanded. Some ideas come from conversations regarding past times and either old photographs from yesteryear are brought out, or current images are sent to me and I am asked if I could paint them to hang their memory on the wall.
As an example, there is an old photograph of a marketplace in Bagdad circa 1936 which caught my eye and brought it to life in a form of a painting: (credit Pinterest post by Nazar Alqaysi)
Another example below was for my neighbor who survived coming to Canada from Mosul, Iraq which was was flattened by the war with ISIS and had recently become ill. Upon some research, I managed to resurrect his old neighborhood in a painting and was able to cheer him up.
Although I appreciate and believe in the advancement in technology however there are times when snap shots of our lives can be lost due to phones being updated and/or a lack of storage. Unfortunately, gone are the days when you could drop your film off to be processed. Prints would be viewed, placed into photo albums to be looked at again, sometimes years in the future.
In closing, I hope you enjoy my works and if you have any comments, or would like to bring an old favorite photo memory back to life, or preserve a new photo as a painting, please drop me a line in the Contact Section.
Please note that although I do paint people, I do not paint any formal portraits. I paint from sizes 5" by 7"up to 16" x 20" however, most of my paintings are painted 11"by 14" for a mat that will fit a 16"by 20" frame.
Hope you enjoy.
Best Regards,
Ron Vickers
